Herman Krieger

Watch Your Step, Havana, Cuba, 2012

Fujicolor Crystal Archive print

Herman's life-long involvement in photography began in the early 1940s, on the high school yearbook staff with a 4x5 Speed Graphic. Fast-forwarding to 1994, after retiring to Eugene he received a BFA from the University of Oregon and began documenting life and times in the Eugene-Springfield area - and occasionally beyond. He has exhibited numerous portfolios of people, places and events, noteworthy for their humor and irony. His Churches ad hoc: a Divine Comedy (1998), a mischievous collection of snapshots of houses of worship, pokes gentle fun at religion. Herman's photos of street life in Cuba, shot in 2012, have been exhibited both in Cuba and the U.S.
