Charlie Waite's talk at the 2018 Meeting of Minds conference in Penrith.
An investigation into the mind of this acclaimed landscape photographer.

Charlie Waite - Behind the Photograph

“Over the last 20 years, I have become more and more intrigued as to what takes place in my mind prior to the decision to make the photograph. It is a complex and very energetic process made up of evaluating, interpreting, analyzing and ultimately decision making.  Through my photography, I have felt privileged and humbled to have experienced so much richness and diversity across the globe. A photograph has no human voice nor music to support it. It just is. At its best, I feel that a still image of the landscape can contain a sense of purity that settles my mind and offers me the opportunity to reflect and wonder at our world.”  - Charlie Waite

The photographs included in ‘Behind the Photograph’ are a collection of images taken by Waite from across the globe.

André Kertész & Edward Steichen

Masters of Photography Film Series

Edward Jean Steichen, credited with transforming photography into an art form, was a Luxembourgish American photographer, painter, and curator, renowned as one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of photography.
André Kertész was a Hungarian-born photographer known for his groundbreaking contributions to photographic composition and the photo essay. In the early years of his career, his then-unorthodox camera angles and style prevented his work from gaining wider recognition. Kertész never felt that he had gained the worldwide recognition he deserved, however today he is considered one of the seminal figures of photojournalism.
