Jerry Burchfield, photography professor and environmental activist, is well known for documenting and influencing the development of Laguna Canyon, one of Orange County's last, relatively pristine areas, as well as the conversion of Orange County's El Toro Marine Base into a park. In his personal work, he created images using a technique called "Lumen prints," exposing rare flowers and plants directly onto photographic paper in a manner similar to 19th century photograms. Burchfield founded the Laguna Wilderness Press, received numerous awards and grants, and his work is in major collections in the U.S.
