Carl Chiarenza

A native of Rochester, New York, Carl Chiarenza is professor emeritus of art history at the University of Rochester. He previosly taught at Boston University, Smith College and Cornell University. He has lectured and taught workshops at more than 100 institutions in 33 states since 1966.

Chiarenza constructs collages of scrap materials to be photographed. These meditative symbols forge a connection between the mind and nature that elicits inner emotional states.
